YOUTH LEADERSHIP CHALLENGE & SCHOLARSHIPS
2026 Michael F. Peterson URECA Youth Leadership Challenge
Calling all high school juniors…Are you up for a challenge? Each year, high school junior students have a chance to apply to attend the Utah Rural Electric Cooperative Association (URECA) Youth Leadership Challenge (YLC). This week-long event is full of activities that will improve life skills and generate leadership qualities that last a lifetime. Students selected will hear from amazing speakers, participate in rope course challenges, talent shows, and a dance during the week. Students will develop long-lasting, meaningful relationships. Juniors in high school going into their senior year may apply. To be eligible, the student’s immediate family must receive electric service from Dixie Power, and the student must be attending a local high school. Applications are accepted between February 1st and February 28th.
2026 Youth Leadership Challenge July 6 – 10, 2026
Once students are selected to attend the five-day, all-expenses-paid conference, they have a chance to win one of the following awards:
- College Scholarships: Over $20,000 in Dixie Power Scholarships will be awarded.
- Two students selected to represent URECA at the NRECA National Youth Tour in Washington, D.C. ($2,500)
How Do We Fund Scholarships?
Dixie Power funds its scholarship program through unclaimed capital credits, ensuring that the financial support provided to students does not impact the rates of our members. This means that the money allocated for scholarships comes from unclaimed funds rather than our members’ electricity rates. To avoid unintentionally contributing to the scholarship fund, we encourage members to keep their address updated with us if they move off the Dixie Power system. This helps ensure that any capital credits due are returned to members.
